  • The Sword in the Stone - Chapter Book Illustrations
The Sword in the Stone - Chapter Book IllustrationsI illustrated The Sword in the Stone (T.H.White) for part of my MA portfolio for the 2019 Bologna Children's Book Fair. I discovered that I am entirely capable of creating illustrations in black and white, which I had never attempted before, and I took great pleasure in indulging myself in the lavish detail of Merlyn's study, as described in the novel.

  • Reportage Illustration (Ongoing)
Reportage Illustration (Ongoing)I have an unfortunate habit of people-watching, and consequently many unsuspecting victims find their way into my sketchbook. My illustrations and stories feed off the everyday and mundane, and I find Reportage an indulgent break to keep me going between projects. I am constantly observational-sketching (my parents really hoped I was past the phase of bringing the sketchbook out at dinner), and my predominant skill is that I can capture a likeness within moments. Each small sketch takes, at most

MA Children’s Book IllustrationCambridge school of Art
     - Cambridge, United Kingdom
I have spent the past eighteen-months honing my Illustration skills. This was a steep learning curve, as I progressed from no experience in the creative industry, to being able to create an entire children’s picture-book within six weeks (the typical length of one module). I also wrote a 6,000 word thesis on the reception of Classical Mythology in children’s literature, resulting in a comic book/graphic novel that I wrote and illustrated, entitled ‘Persephone.’ My work was also displayed at the CSA stand at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair 2019.

BA Hons Classical Civilisation - First ClassUniversity of Nottingham

My First Class degree in Classical Civilisation demonstrates my passion for the subject and academia as a whole. I studied all aspects of the ancient world and adored every moment. This degree developed my outstanding time-management and organisational skills, as well as my keen eye for detail. Writing essays of at least 15,000 words means not only do I have an excellent command of the English language and impeccable grammar and punctuation, but I am also skilled at proof-reading and editing. I became adaptable, able to work fluidly on multiple, un-related projects at once. For example, in my second year I wrote two 5,000 word essays whilst also creating a comic based on the life and letters of the Roman orator Cicero. My degree allowed me to indulge in my love for academia, as well as combine this with my natural creativity: further to my comic, I also illustrated some busts for a publication by one of my professors.
