Working across Dewberry Redpoint's three titles (Cost Sector Catering, Stockpot and Verdict Foodservice) provided great insight into print and digital media, and the hospitality industry. Testament to my hard work and dedication, I was appointed as temporary editor of Stockpot (the Craft Guild of Chefs' official publication) after just 10 months and vote the office 'Hero of the Quarter' after three. Main responsibilities: writing features, reviews and other content; covering daily news online; carrying out interviews (including chefs Emily Roux and Adam Handling); compiling two daily e-newsletters and managing each title’s social channels. I also represented the company at internal and external events - most notably when I sat on the top table at the Craft Guild's annual awards ceremony alongside the chairman and event host.

(Contract) Working at the fashion trade magazine Drapers earned me vast experience pitching and producing content in different formats and across different platforms. This included news, features, interviews, trends reports and news analysis for both print and online. I also managed the title's social channels - planning, creating and posting content on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn - as well as the daily and weekly website reporting. Together these heightened my knowledge of SEO and the best ways to drive traffic and user engagement. What's more, writing for a weekly magazine proved that I thrive under pressure and that I can manage multiple deadlines at once without compromising quality or accuracy.

    • Heavy-weighed essay course honed my research and writing skills, as showcased in my successful 10,000-word dissertation, entitled: ‘The experiences of first-generation Caribbean migrants in France and England’ • Individual and group presentations built upon my communication skills, not only verbally but interpersonally, too, as I demonstrated excellent teamwork and leadership • A diverse range of modules from ‘Black British Fiction’ to ‘Contemporary France: History, Politics, Literature’ provided greater awareness of the world around me • Learning to speak a foreign language in front of French natives (at university and on my year abroad) has been paramount in improving my skills and confidence speaking French
