Engaging the viewer through a weird playfulness is the aim of my illustrations.
I create colourful, bold line illustrations inspired by the natural world and events in the news and day to day life. I enjoy visualising puns or plays on words, these can have either a lighthearted or deeper meaning depending on the intended message of the illustration. I use a mixture of mediums in my work with a current focus on ink and colour pencil and digital media. All my illustrations begin as a basic pencil drawing in my sketchbook, before the addition of colour, I choose the media that I feel best suits the feeling or message I am intending to convey with the piece. I am currently working on a project combining my interest in history into my practice, looking at 'Unlikely Heroes', animals who's efforts have been credited with saving lives and assisting with delivering important information in exceptional circumstances.
I have recently had my ‘Feed The Birds’ illustration published in the first issue of BITS magazine and have previously had work displayed in a number of galleries and independent zines I have also had several illustrations, part of my ‘Bird Bath’ series, exhibited at the Fringe Arts Bath festival.
Projects
- Unlikely Heroes'Unlikely Heroes' is a self led zine project, focusing on building my graphic design and layout skills whilst combining my illustrations and interest in history. Aiming to highlight some 'unlikely heroes', carrier pigeons who served in the first and second world wars. Exploring their roles and the impact they had I chose a number of recipients of the PDSA Dickin medal to focus on.
