About me
My name is Lauren Higgins. I am a multidisciplinary illustrator and designer with a BA Hons in Illustration and a MA in Design. My principal background is as an illustrator which has enables me to create works that engage. Following my illustration degree, I completed a Masters in Design at the University of Derby, through which I have deepened my process, practice and understanding in how a design can broaden the connection and enhance experience.
My process almost always consists of making, which includes a broad spectrum of mediums and materials often in collage and 3D. This allows me to understand the scale, shape, form, theme and is how I find I best connect to the brief. Playfulness, colour, and texture are also key themes in my work, but always it’s the experience and the response to my work that gives me the greatest kick.

- The Inner and Outer UniverseThe Inner and Outer Universe consisted of a brief that looked to create two large scale murals to be situated inside The Mander Centre Shopping Centre in Wolverhampton. The murals consisted of artworks created to encompass an abstract and botanical landscape. Both artworks were later longlist winners in the World Illustration Awards 2022
- Dear TomorrowDear Tomorrow looked to capture the concerns the public of Wolverhampton had for the future and the future of the planet. The project looked to capture the important themes uncovered in these letters by illustrating the letters and displaying as part of an Art Exhibition in Wolverhampton Art Gallery.

I have completed a number of freelance projects and commissions which include large scale murals for both the Wolverhampton Mander Centre and Train station, and digital designs for merchandise to be sold at the British Art Show 9 as well as designing illustrative works for a national exhibition.
April 2023- Produced and presented designs for Derby’s Civic Lab, ‘Reimagining Derby’s History for its Civic Future’.
November 2022- Produced illustrative artworks for National Exhibition ‘Dear Tomorrow’ Commissioned by Rachel Thomas Studio and Wolverhampton Art Gallery
September 2022- Created artworks and mural for The Arena Theatre in the Mander Centre
February 2022- Created three artwork Mural designs for (BID) Enjoy Wolverhampton
November 2021- Created merchandise designs for British Art Show 9 and University of Wolverhampton
