About me

Textiles epitomises what I perceive creativity to be, fabric, colour, pattern, texture and composition. My love for textiles and design came from my family and friends around me. From my Nani teaching me her seamstress methods, my neighbour Jennie showing me how to knit and my family descending from shoemakers, textiles has been in my blood and in my surroundings since I was born. As a designer I am inspired by my own experiences from travelling, my vibrant culture and personal life events. I find I am drawn to creating a cultural atmosphere in my work by immersing myself in the ethos and researching each particular strand thoroughly to enhance my design process.

  Layla Chauhan DesignsCreated my own personal branding during my degree for my textile collection. Continued developing personal branding into marketing assets for my small business such as business cards, tags and postcards. All branding inspired by stamps from my family’s immigration documents and their borders. Also curated my own Instagram page to fit personal branding including posts, stories, highlights and reels.
• EUTVCreated a concise and clear brand book for the television station as well as a prospectus to promote the society at fairs. Highlighted the key brand values and reflected throughout all graphic design for the society.

  Casa Museo Don BoscoEstablished a clear brand identity for this historic house in Spain using logo, colour, typography and illustrative elements. Created clear brand values and beliefs for the museum to focus on as well as a range of designs to show how the branding can be used throughout the house.
• Benjamin FlintaWas set a brief by a lifestyle coach wanting to attract people to his website for his services. Interpreted his brief, information about his services in bitesize pieces presented in a calming manner, using a mix of colour blocks, photography and classic fonts.
• Adobe Digital Edge AwardLookbook for my graduate project Brick Lane: An Immigration Story. Presented my textile design work in a magazine style layout to emphasise streetwear and fashion elements of the project. Submitted work to Adobe Digital Edge Awards and won the overall competition for 2022.
• Mystic PrintsMystic Prints is a collection of commercial print designs I have created for Fairbairn and Wolf Studio. I have used a inks to outline mystic details such as sun, moon and stars and have experimented with each to create different designs. By following current trend briefs, I have created a collection of designs ready for commercial use. Set up for session by preparing materials and setting tables with suitable tools and equipment. Taught how to make cocktail rings, flower crowns and knicker personalisation. Gave participants assistance when needed and also inspiration. Learnt the timings of the session: the demonstration at the beginning, creating in the middle and photographs and clearing at the end. Assisted in clearing up the session, organised equipment in the way it came and gave out feedback forms.

Winner of prestigious Adobe Digital Edge Award 2022. National accolade for using Adobe Creative Cloud to create layered and digital textile designs as well as creating a professional portfolio/lookbook, inspired by fashion editorial spreads. As part of the award, was able to speak at the international Adobe Max Conference about my work and inspire other creatives.

Fife Contemporary New Maker AwardFife Contemporary
Winner of Fife Contemporary New Maker Award’s for 2022 for the textile techniques used in my graduate collection Brick Lane: An Immigration Story. Awarded a grant to help me further my practice by helping me buy specialist materials, as well as receiving support through their yearly residency.
