Textiles epitomises what I perceive creativity to be, fabric, colour, pattern, texture and composition. My love for textiles and design came from my family and friends around me. From my Nani teaching me her seamstress methods, my neighbour Jennie showing me how to knit and my family descending from shoemakers, textiles has been in my blood and in my surroundings since I was born.
As a designer I am inspired by my own experiences from travelling, my vibrant culture and personal life events. I find I am drawn to creating a cultural atmosphere in my work by immersing myself in the ethos and researching each particular strand thoroughly to enhance my design process.
Projects
- Layla Chauhan DesignsCreated my own personal branding during my degree for my textile collection. Continued developing personal branding into marketing assets for my small business such as business cards, tags and postcards. All branding inspired by stamps from my family’s immigration documents and their borders. Also curated my own Instagram page to fit personal branding including posts, stories, highlights and reels.
- Casa Museo Don BoscoEstablished a clear brand identity for this historic house in Spain using logo, colour, typography and illustrative elements. Created clear brand values and beliefs for the museum to focus on as well as a range of designs to show how the branding can be used throughout the house.
- Mystic PrintsMystic Prints is a collection of commercial print designs I have created for Fairbairn and Wolf Studio. I have used a inks to outline mystic details such as sun, moon and stars and have experimented with each to create different designs. By following current trend briefs, I have created a collection of designs ready for commercial use.
