About me
I am a Senior User Experience Designer, Inclusive Design specialist and Neurodiversity advocate, having created the BBC’s multi-award winning Neurodiversity program CAPE (Creating a Positive Environment). At a time when Neurodiversity was virtually unknown, I delivered an engaging narrative for change and support, from a Virtual Reality experience which has been presented internationally. I also design learning experiences that recognise different learning styles and interactive films that are used to support training and offer access support for neurodivergent individuals. As a result of this work, I’ve been recognised as a key influencer in the media and creative sectors and was featured in numerous publications such as Campaign Live, the Guardian, Design Week, The Drum, Wired UK. I also influenced the design brief of the new BBC Wales HQ in Cardiff which incorporated neurodiverse friendly design features in a UK and world first for such a building. As a result of this work, the BBC is now informing the British Standards Institute’s first building design standard for sensory and neurological needs. This will provide information for designers and decision-makers on particular design features which can make public places more inclusive for everyone. I am passionate about the issues involving Intersectionality and the importance of growing the narrative around Disability and Neurodiversity with respect to gender and especially BAME communities, to promote representation and a more focussed dialogue. In my spare time I enjoy pursuing more personal creative endeavours, being one of the exhibited artists at Artism UK and as an ambassador for SENDCode a social enterprise designed for young neurodivergent individuals who are unable to access school or Post-16 providers because of environmental or social factors. Having overcome many barriers myself from education to employment, I aim to be a positive role model for young people and strive towards breaking barriers for others using innovation and creativity.
