Lies de Rooij (b.1991) is a The Hague based mixed media artist and illustrator. She received her BFA in Fine arts from The Royal academy of Arts, The Hague as well as a propedeuse in Visual Design from St. Lucas, Gent.
Her photography-based practice submerges from her amazement for the world, it’s systems, perspectives and interpretations. She captures these findings in what she calls dreamscapes. Projects can entail fine arts prints, installations, booklets and posters – with humor often as the protagonist.
With an unhabituated view on the world she hopes to enchant. It’s her way of coping with an over stimulated life and reconsider all the things we collect and value.
Her present body of work include illustrations for digital and publishing projects, fine art prints and other personal works. Lies is part of the artist collective Yeds in Rotterdam and she has worked with various clients like: Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Lorang&Co, De cultuurschool Rotterdam, Bibliotheek Den haag, Kunstuitleen Rotterdam and Team Typisch. Lies has been awarded the analog photography prize by Lomography in 2012 and has shown her works on platforms like A5-Zine.
