About me
I am a writer with more than 20 years' experience across journalism and copywriting. My track record is primarily in sport from grassroots through to Olympic levels. I have been freelance since January 2014 and I work for a wide range of national and international outlets who return on a regular basis including the International Olympic Committee, The Guardian and Reach plc. I'm an accomplished copywriter, skilled at writing for different audiences across long and short reads, social media and digital with clients including the IPC and Arena as well as local customers where the audience requires a different tone of voice. I am skilled at SEO in web writing. I have worked on the news service at several international sporting events in reporting and sub-editing roles as well as training and leading teams of volunteers.

Aimee Willmott Talks Periods, Puberty And PerformancePeriods have been described as the last taboo in sport. I spoke to Commonwealth swimming champion Aimee Willmott on International Women's Day about her own experiences of their effect on performance and how she addresses this with young female swimmers.

Since going freelance I've been commissioned by many national and international outlets who have returned to me on a regular basis. I cover Premier League and Championship football on a weekly basis for Reach plc and my work has also appeared in The Guardian, Observer, The Times, Daily Express and Daily Star. I work on an ongoing basis for the International Olympic Committee sourcing and composing features as well as producing a wide variety of content including profiles of new sports on the Olympic programme, insights into sporting technology and an in-depth study of the Youth Olympic Games. I was approached in late 2019 to be the European correspondent for Swimming World, a US-based website which covers Olympic, world and collegiate swimming. This involves using SEO - content, keywords, linking and tags - and sourcing pictures and film. I've produced swimming copy for AFP, Reuters, The Guardian and Daily Mail at the 2015/17/19 World Championships & 2014 Europeans as well as the inaugural ISL season for AP commercial. I manage the social media channels for Sheffield gym/PT/nutritionist Kate Campbell Fitness using the appropriate tone of voice, which demanded striking the right balance between authenticity, compassion, humour and sales during the coronavirus pandemic. I also produce images in Canva and update the website using SquareSpace. I managed all the copy at the 2019 World Para Athletics Junior Championships which involved working across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feed and stories as well as producing a written wrap. I've also become a valued member at news service teams at sporting events around the world including the 2016 Olympics in Rio and 2018 Winter Olympics where I've undertaken reporting and editing roles.
