About me
Lucy Goodman is a newly emerging writer based in London. As a Cystic Fibrosis sufferer, she seeks to tell stories based on illness and disability, both visible and non-visible. She wants to change the narrative of how disabled characters are commonly portrayed, subverting the overly sanitised approach and showing that people with illnesses and disabilities are human beings with flaws who don't continuously operate with moral purity.

EDUCATION
I missed over 50% of my education as I was in hospital and unwell at home. Understandably the state system
didn’t have the resources to support me. It did however mean that I had to teach myself/ wasn’t well enough to
study. However, I did still manage to get 10 GCSEs A*- C. Then it was time was sixth form, I was on portable
oxygen and managed one year but was kicked out because I missed an exam due to being in hospital. I’m sure it
was an admin error but at 17 I felt bad as I hated the stigma of being kicked out of school. Instead of completing
my A- levels I concentrated on my health and later did 60 credits with the Open University. At 20, my health
stabilized a bit and I wrote to universities directly to see if they would allow me in without qualifications.
Goldsmiths University accepted me and I studied Clinical Psychology for a year until my health deteriorated. Not
having A levels and a degree has always been something I have been insecure about but it has meant that I have
worked harder to prove myself.
