About me
A Film and Television MA graduate of the University of Bristol, I am productive and aspirational with a dynamic, determined work ethic. During my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, I consistently organised work and extra-curricular activities around my studies, working part-time as a Runner on the television show 'Sunday Brunch' and as a Bar Attendant, also completing work experience with the magazines of Bauer Media. Throughout this time I also took on roles as the Blog Head Editor, Social Media Officer, and Social Secretary of my university's fashion society, as well as co-hosting a radio show on the high and low hot topics of film and television. In 2020, I directed and produced a charity promotional video for Bristol's landmark Christ Church with St Ewen; writing risk assessments, gaining film permits, and running shoots in my spare time. With a total of 8 years working in customer service, I also have experience of working in retail and café hospitality before university. After finishing my MA in September 2020, I worked as a video and audio transcriber and as a Sales Assistant alongside perfecting my Adobe Premiere Pro skills with personal editing projects. Now, I am working full-time as a Product Placement Account Coordinator for film and TV at Seesaw Media.

In preparation for shoots, I researched, edited scripts, wrote risk assessments, gained filming permits, and liaised with local organisations such as Bristol Museum & Art Gallery. As a Freelance Transcriptionist, I transcribe both video and audio files in a range of contexts, from police interviews to boardroom meetings, in either a verbatim or non-verbatim style. Due to the varied nature of the topics in discussion, I must have an excellent command of English spelling and grammar, as well as impeccable research skills, in order to correctly spell the specific jargon of different industries and jobs. This role also requires intense concentration and a good ear in order to differentiate between voices, comprehend international accents, and decipher mumbled or fast speech.

For my MA I chose a balance of theory and practical units in order to advance my practical, communication, and interpersonal skills. I have been trained to edit with Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as shoot footage with a standard sound kit and Sony FS5 camera. For example, I produced a portrait on a local funeral parlour with a group of peers and performed the roles of sound assistant, interviewer, and producer; organising shoots and edit sessions, booking and collecting equipment, and writing risk assessments. I also completed assignments designed to simulate real-world experience in the television and film industries, tasked in Documentary Film to create and present a proposal for a documentary series or film with a real commissioner in mind. Allowing us to practise our public speaking and team-working skills, whilst encouraging creative independence and exploration, this course overall has supported my preparation for work in the media industries.

During my undergraduate degree I cultivated excellent written and spoken communication skills, primarily through essays and presentations, and developed methods of academic research. Both of these have served me in work experience gained since, as communication and research are central to work in television production, print journalism, and radio. Through the medium of literature I also gained a greater understanding of world history and culture, especially from such units as The Age of the Anthropocene and Celebrity Cultures; equipping me for work in the creative industries, which explore wide-ranging subjects of interest.
