Although I’ve been working as a freelancer for the last 5 years, I previously worked as a full-time copywriter and Creative Director for over 20 years in the UK and South Africa. My full-time positions have mostly been with top 10 global agency networks including Ogilvy's, Leo Burnett, FCB, Lowe and McCann's. My extensive copywriting and strategic experience gained over this time, has covered virtually all media, channels, clients and business categories. As well as having worked alongside some of South Africa’s top creatives and strategists, I’ve also trained and mentored some of the world’s top copywriters and art-directors. I have endless energy, am massively motivated, perpetually passionate, and love working and interacting with people of all ages, backgrounds and experience. My creative work has received over 60 international awards. Copywriting services: All digital including web, blogs, content, social media and print. Conceptual copywriting/ scripting for TV, video, and radio. Strategic input and brand development. Creative direction/ design/ art-direction and artwork – with my design/ art-director partner through my network: Design for print and digital, DTP and artwork for print including ads, posters, logos, corporate identity, brochures, catalogues, newsletters, and leaflets.
I was responsible for overseeing all the creative work from brand strategy through to concept and production on the Nestle account for the EAR (Equatorial African Region inc. 21 countries). It was the biggest account in the agency, and I was responsible for managing three teams of copywriters/art-directors and two designers, producing integrated creative for all the above brands including TV commercials for Nescafe, Nestea and Milo.
I was the founder and owner of Truth advertising in Durban, South Africa. The agency opened its doors in August 2001 and established an excellent creative reputation in Kwa-Zulu Natal with a number of prestigious awards, including a Silver at Cannes, finalists at The One Show and Clio’s. At the beginning of 2004, Truth was approached by the Lowe Bull Group (Lowe Worldwide), who wanted to establish a presence in Durban. After looking at a number of independent agencies in Durban, Lowe Bull were impressed with Truth’s creative product, and shared management ethics and corporate values. Lowe Bull are the 10th largest agency in South Africa, in the top 3 creatively, and internationally aligned with Lowes Worldwide (London) who are owned by the InterPublic Group. On the 1st March 2005 Truth formally aligned with Lowe Bull, who were a minority shareholder, and formed Lowe Bull Truth.
During my time at FCB, I picked up over 50 International and national awards incuding Golds at the Clios, New York festivals, London Internationals, the South African Loeries, and was made a member of the Art Director's Club of New York.
I worked on Adidas and Honda during my time at Leo Burnetts.
Clients I worked on included Nestle, Nedbank, Telkom, Sun International.
