I had three days of work experience as a Production Assistant at an audio drama recording. The director was Joby Waldman of Reduced Listening, and it was a production for BBC Radio 3. The drama was called Ropewalk House and was written by Anita Sullivan. I was responsible for marking up the master script, organising refreshments, and offering assistance with the recordings when needed. It was an invaluable experience to see a professional audio drama being directed and recorded.
I was commissioned to produce a three-minute trailer for Season 1 of The Family Tree podcast, for use as a part of the creators’ pitch to television networks, and future use on their podcast feed. I used Hindenburg audio editing software to edit together clips and original music from the podcast.
I have completed a seven-month work experience placement at a hip hop station, Westside Radio in Hanwell, North West London. I wrote news bulletins and events roundup scripts for the station. I spent one day a week working at Westside. I also filled in as news presenter when the regular presenter was not available. A sample of my work as a presenter is included in the Websites section.
I worked as a part-time freelance journalist at the i newspaper. I wrote features for the newspaper's website about people and places across the UK, including offbeat, historical, and food and drink articles. I also tested a beta-website for a new news app by posting curated news articles.
I worked as an online content creator at The Scotsman. I wrote articles for The Scotsman’s Food and Drink website, and for their 200 Voices website. The latter focused on famous Scots, past and present. I conducted phone interviews and did my own research for my articles.
I worked as a member of the Front of House team at the Gilded Balloon Festival Fringe venue. I took charge of ticketing, seating and directing members of the public. There were multiple shows taking place at any one time, so I had to work closely with my colleagues in order to co-ordinate the various performances. I also worked with the performers themselves in order to ensure that the shows began on time and that they had everything they needed.
I worked as a runner on The Culture Studio, a BBC Radio Scotland programme. I took care of guests appearing on the show at the outside broadcast on Potterow. I was also responsible for organising catering and making sure the guests were where they needed to be, as well as assisting them with paperwork.
