During this time we have been part of the process that has helped it to grow into one of the top 5 most successful e-shops in fashion. My job in Machinas consists of assisting the creative team in the conceptual design and the production of front-end banners.

Nissan Diehard Fan - Nations

After the great success of Nissan DieHard Fan in USA, reaching over 100 million impressions, over 41 million face paints “tried on”, 2.7 million photos and videos taken, an impressive 10 minutes average time spent within the app and awards at Cannes Lions, Nissan Diehard Fan - Nations was created for the Rio Olympics 2016.
Nissan DieHard - Nations is an ultimate-technology app created by Critical Mass, powered by Image Metrics, for Nissan. This application for Android and Apple runs a virtual face-painting app, for those fanatics who need to express their love for their teams. Not only you can try on different combinations of face-paint and take pictures, but you can also record videos to sing your nations chants.
The process started in Critical Mass Calgary, where faces were painted with real paint. So yes, the texture you get in the app are real strokes of paint on a human face! Afterwards, portraits were made of the face in various angles. Here’s where the team in Hangar Costa Rica comes in! We flattened these portraits in Photoshop and started colorising them in every flag color palette the 206 countries attending the Olympics had. We colored and we accommodated them to a mesh which recognised the facial features. The app afterwards presents the detection of faces and with augmented reality, boom, you have your face painted with real paint strokes.
Four months of colorising and adjusting faces to a mesh was my job in Hangar Costa Rica! Not only was it amazing to learn how this technology works, learn a ton of new information about countries in the world, or to interact with your project manager all the way from Canada; the sense that you can ease the way people support their countries was way more powerful than anything I mention before, especially since we also achieved to make face-paint for the Refugees Olympic Team!
