About me
MARCO VANUCCI is founder and Design Director of OPENSYSTEMS Architecture, an architecture firm based in London. Founded in 2012, OPENSYSTEMS Architecture is an architecture and design studio with over 15 years of collective professional experience in the field of architecture, interior design and product design. Since its opening, the studio has worked in the UK, China, Italy, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Portugal, Mexico, Libya, Sweden.
OPENSYSTEMS conceives architecture as an organizational problem: the social, technological and ecological aspects come together in a systematic design methodology. As the name suggests, OPENSYSTEMS conceives each project as the systemic integration of all aspects within an open and vital architectural form. This vision is reinforced by the multidisciplinary approach to design that establishes profitable exchanges with a dense network of professional skills. Participation in international competitions gave the studio the opportunity to show the quality of its approach to architectural design and to achieve important awards. In 2012, OPENSYSTEMS won the first prize of Outside The Box International competition with a project for a housing unit for earthquake zones. Also in 2012, the studio received honorable mention at the The Competitive Hypothesis international competition organized by the Storefront Gallery in New York. In 2016 the studio received honorable mention for the AIM CO-working competition (China) and in 2016 it was awarded the bronze medal in the A’Design competition for interior and exhibition design. The North London residential renovation project was recently selected as one of the best residential projects of the year in London in the Don’t Move Improve competition organized by New London Architecture.
Marco has always added teaching to his professional activity. Between 2009 and 2012 he taught Architectural Technology at KTH in Stockholm. Between 2013 and 2018 he taught architectural design at the Architectural Association of London. Marco has participated in numerous conferences and symposia (Venice Biennale, Acadia2008, etc.) and has lectured all over the world. His works have been exhibited in various international exhibitions in Europe and North America and he is a regular visiting critic at the Architectural Association, Bartlett School and Westminster University in London, Columbia University in New York, KTH Stockholm, Harvard GSD, ESA Paris and IAAC in Barcelona.
