- Re-imagining Photography - Graduate WorkRe-imagining Photography: Phase One – The Digital, Photography and Contemporary Culture. This body of work explores the relationship between photography, the virtual, technology and contemporary culture. It works as a photographic exploration which unravels the ways these areas interlink, interact and interfere with one another. Photography is in a state of autonomisation – as a medium, a practice and within the spectating of photography – due to how the digital space, advances in technology and the intangible form of data can rapidly pass information from one point to another in seemingly infinite quantity. Images fill our everyday; we have become passive in our observation and habitual in our perception. This project aims to re-imagine, reform and represent photography, technology and the virtual in a way that defamiliarizes from what we understand it to be, and interrupts the expected form and consumption of photographic imagery. Questioning ideas of representation, reality, form and space, this work pushes the boundaries of photography into what may be considered meta-meta-photography; the making of images that are past the physical and visual elements of the images subject and the expected form of the medium.
