About me
BG Mark J Alex. was commissioned an infantry officer from the United States Military Academy. He has also earned a Masters's Degree in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Masters's Degree in Military Science at the USMC Command and Staff College. Colonel Alex served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Support Platoon Leader, and Battalion S3 Air in the 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He later served as the Brigade S3 Air. He was then assigned to the Opposing Forces at the National Training Center and served as the Battalion Assistant Operations Officer and Company Commander. Next, he was assigned to the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), where he again served as a Battalion Assistant Operations Officer and Company Commander. After graduate school, Colonel Alex served as a strategist in the Army G3 Strategy, Plans and Policy Directorate and later attended the USMC Command and Staff College. Subsequently, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR) as the Battalion Operations Officer and later as the Battalion Executive Officer, to include a deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was then selected as the Army Military Aide to the President, serving for Presidents Bush and Obama. He returned to command 1st Battalion, 505th PIR in 2010, and while serving on the Global Response Force mission, the battalion was alerted and deployed in support of the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force – Afghanistan. Then, he was selected as the US Army War College Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. In June 2013, he was reassigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, where he served as the G3, Division Operations Officer. Subsequently, he commanded the 3rd Brigade Combat Team and deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. He also commanded the Joint Multinational Readiness Center from 2016-2018 and most recently served as the Deputy Commander for Ops at 7th ID.
