- Art Now: Jesse Darling — The Ballad of Saint Jerome, Tate BritainJesse Darling in conversation with Reverend Dr Christina Beardsley "My real obsession, though, is not the man itself so much as his legend: the story of Saint Jerome and the lion. To me, this is a love story, but also a story about sovereignty, captivity, the domestication of otherness. It's ambiguous and ambivalent. I wonder when the lion showed up in the story, and why." PhotographerTATE
London, United KingdomFull Time
As a photographer for Tate Gallery, one of my main objectives is to record and document the Gallery’s collection of artwork through providing official views of each artwork, with accompanying conservation photography that includes Infra red, UV and Raking light photography. Other roles include photographing the vast exhibitions across all four Tate sites, in addition to external galleries who exhibit shows on behalf of Artist Rooms and Tate.
Furthermore in my role at Tate, it is necessary to photograph Press views, Artist Portraits, the documentation of learning events, private tours of Artist Studio’s, as well as providing photography for Tate’s Design Studio and Publishing House to be used in regards to promotion of Tate exhibitions’ (Posters, banners and leaflets), publications and merchandise. Other roles include recording Tate’s vast archive collection, alongside 3D Sculpture and object photography.
Senior Photographer for Sculpture Art UK Project (Dec 2019)
For this role, I was responsible for the planning, co-ordinating and delivery of photography for 44 sculptures in Tate’s collection to Sculpture Art UK, within a one month timeframe. This required me to audit Tate’s entire Sculpture collection in order to identify works without photography, considering the logistics and feasibility of which should be photographed. It was important for me to work closely with Colleagues from Registration, Conservation and Art Handling to coordinate the movement of artworks to and from the studio for photography of these artworks.
