About me
Mica Bohannon is an English Photographer currently studying at the Arts University Bournemouth and previously had done her Foundation at the University of Sunderland. Specialising in social culture and anthropological studies she has always had a key interest in how people think, interact and react with one another in social contexts. Previous work has shown a wide and experimental selection of work from Appropriated portraits of the famous, video work on the life of the elderly to portraiture of passers by. Her current personal work has been revolving around the stigmas and taboos on how society looks upon mothers; specifically towards their maternal role of breastfeeding and the pressures they face when it comes to body anxieties. The maternal role and how it fits in with modern day culture has grown into a passion for Mica as she has uncovered over the past year the criticisms that a lot of women face during this point in life. Astoundingly she has also discovered the lack of information and knowledge that women receive when venturing into motherhood, which has lead her to produce an archive of work revolving around the support and awareness of maternal anxieties. Exhibitions 'INTERUM exhibition' 2013 - The National Glass Centre - Sunderland 'Foundation Diploma Art and Design final exhibition' 2014 - The National Glass Centre, Sundelrand 'SPECTRA' 2016 - Bournemouth Factory Studios, Bournemouth Awards Nominee for the "Living Together" - European Photo Competition 2015

Using the stigma of breastfeeding and constant body criticisms that mothers receives as inspiration for her work, Mother's is a project based on the anxieties that comes with the role of motherhood and aims to show and inform its audience of the wide diversity of changes that can occur to the female
