About me
I have a Masters in Art and Media Practice from The University of Westminster, London, and Bachelors degree in Visual Art from the College of Fine Arts, Karnataka Chitrakala Parisath, Bangalore with a specialization in painting.
I am currently working as a faculty at The Srishti Institute of Art Design and Technology and am part of the Information arts and Information Design Practices, Undergraduate Professional Program.
As an artist and as a Faculty my practice expands into various intermediary practices that involve video and sound installations and traditional modes of Art. My focus areas are feminism, identity, memory and interpretation, and the relationship between the artist and the viewer that formulate through processes of perception and social interaction in various cultural environments. I have previously worked as an Assistant Curator, Coordinator and Gallery Manager at some of the best know Art galleries in Bangalore. I am also an independent contemporary art curator, working internationally and creatively with artists entirely on original commissions. I believe in being directly engaged with the artist’s working process as far as possible, while actively widening the context within which the artist can work. I have successfully curated several art exhibitions in Bangalore as well as exhibited her own paintings and installations at major Indian cities and in the UK.
I have worked with children from marginal communities as an Art and Life skills facilitator in Bangalore and as a creative leader at The Green School, London.
I also worked as a research associate with the cultural team at National Institute of Design, Bangalore, on ‘Digital Hampi’ a DST funded project. My role involved researching and looking at the lives of common as well as Royals from the Vijaynagar Empire, their trade, occupation, material culture, beliefs, rites and rituals, and living traditions. I successfully complied a documentary about the same.
One of my most important accomplishments occurred during my association with a medical NGO, Aarogya Seva. I worked as a Creative coordinator, my key role was organizing a Fundraiser for a children’s hospital in the Northeast, India. I organized Art and photography exhibitions, concerts and theater performances. I was part of the volunteer team going to Nepal right after the May, 2015 earthquakes providing medical and general facilities and aid to the victims. We also worked with people with post quake related stress and traumas. I worked with children as an art therapist.
I have lead, curated and collaborated various studios, charettes, projects and workshops. Transitioning into the role of an Artist and educator in the academic Industry and subsequently the nonprofit industry has helped me hone my skills towards innovative processes, empathy, creativity and abilities that I share with my students today.
