About me
I am an emerging writer, multidisciplinary artist, creative performer, director and producer. Please see my website for a full CV: www.oliviarodelli.weebly.com BIO Finding its beginnings in text, the written word and an experimental frame of mind, her practice encompasses literature, technology (principally digital video and audio), film/cinema, photography, objects, song/music and performance. Within her work she explores language, intersubjectivity, nature, metaphysical philosophy, science, spirituality, absurdism, liminality and sociological themes such as the relationship between objective and subjective experience, through heightened conversation, monologue and explorations of external and internal space. She has collaborated with visual artists, musicians, writers and creative performers, directing films and works of performance, and operating as a dramaturg and initiator of projects. She originates from a fine art, art history and literature context. She received a professional degree in Theatre, Media & Performance in Bristol, where she spent two years co-directing, devising and performing original work as a member of the ensemble 'Seven Stages'; including a one-woman performance of April de Angelis' Iron Mistress; performing the lead role of Lara in Invisible by Tena Stivicic; performing in the site-specific dance/physical theatre piece Drop Dead Smile, which was performed at the Edwardian Cloakrooms, Bristol, and Bristol Community Dance Centre; and performing multiple roles in a devised production of Simon Stephen's Pornography. An artist working in the discipline of digital video and soundscape, she has also created multi-media content to feature in original theatre performances. She most recently worked as a dramaturg and director on her own adaptation of Peter Weiss' Marat/Sade, which was performed as a piece of site-specific performance at Hamilton House, Bristol; co-wrote and co-devised the experimental performance Online at the Tobacco Factory in Bristol; exhibited video/sound/text art at the Embassy Theatre, London; and supported Chris Lynam on stage at Nozstock: The Hidden Valley. She has also studied film, experimental performance and theatre at the University of Falmouth (after the former Dartington College of Arts community) and trained on the Theatre Practice: Performance Arts programme at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama, where she co-produced the cross-disciplinary /live art festival Youtopia. Molly Olivia is based in Stroud, a small market town known for its community of writers and craftspeople, as well as its environmentally conscious spirit and café culture, and works and collaborates regularly in Bristol and London. She is currently following an experimental, research-based practice; developing material with her London-based arts activism project; writing a feature-length work of theatre about metaphysics; creating an activism/philosophy/free-literature digital publication and zine; and leading several one-on-one artistic collaborations in Bristol. A multidisciplinary performance piece, Tiger Tempts Hell, is currently in R&D.
Projects
  • Tiger Tempts Hell
Tiger Tempts HellTiger Tempts Hell  is a multidisciplinary performance and activism project dedicated to the voices of women who have survived war and conflict. It encompasses the refugee crisis, Diaspora, motherhood, conflict of beliefs between family members, rape and sexual violence, grief, poverty, and ultimately the journey of finding ways to rise above these things, to live again and reclaim your life and identity. The project will be closely informed by research, interviews and creative collaborations with women and girls from communities that the dominant societal hierarchy prefer to disregard; vulnerable members of society, including the homeless, trafficked women, refugees and asylum seekers. It is the courage, truth, sacrifice and incredible journeys of female survivors that inspire Tiger Tempts Hell into being. This is an open and explorative platform for their voices, and the voices of the women who champion them when society turns them away. Through investigative journalism, interviews, research, dialogue, and creative play and collaboration, emerging activist and multidisciplinary artist Molly Olivia Rodelli will create an original and dynamic performance project for female survivors that offers a space for expression, connection and creativity.
