Monica Nicolaides is a choreographer and movement director working in dance, theatre, opera and film.
A featured choreographer for One Dance UK and Hiive’s ‘One-to-watch’, she received support for her work by Arts Council England, IdeasTap Innovators Fund, Candoco Dance Company, Hiive, Clarence Mews Studios and bbodance. Her portfolio includes commissions by British Medical Association, Peregrina EnChantica, Third Row Dance Company, Dance Digital, Hallidonto, Homs Arthaus, University of Cumbria, Sea-Change Theatre, Ryedale Festival Opera and several filmed works with Something Motel amongst others.
Monica practice is influenced by human behaviour and relationships in current society. Her work was featured on BBC Persia, performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Insights Festival, The Lost Theatre, Offbeat Festival, The Place, The Blue Elephant Theatre and Edinburgh zoo.

- Dido & AeneasCompany: Ryedale Festival Opera Musical Director: Eamonn Dougan Photographer: Matthew Johnson Synopsis: Purcell's baroque opera - Dido, Queen of Catharge, falls in love with Aeneas, the Trojan Prince, whilst offering him safe harbour on his journey home. A Sorceress, plots to destroy Dido by separating the two lovers with a storm, and sending one of her servants, disguised as Mercury, to urge Aeneas to go home. Dido cannot bear losing Aeneas and kills herself.
