About me
I am currently working with Grandeur, Mumbai, India (www.glitzandglam.co.in) on enhancing their and mine couture jewelry and my Buandiva fashion statement outfits: prize vintage items or expensive resale designer pieces and up cycling pieces plus some new hand crafted works. Previously my fashion and visual arts obsession stemmed from having owned Buandiva, a bespoke vintage clothes boutique, based in the beautiful Tuscan city of Pistoia, Italy. I curated my collection with an eye to garments that outlive the moment of their creation; past styles that can make what philosopher Walter Benjamin described as a ‘tiger’s leap’ into the present. See me included in an article from Irish national newspaper Irish Examiner and written by fashion journalist Ciara McDonnell: https://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/meet-the-irish-fashion-designers-making-an-impact-around-the-world-439205.html Buandiva, although no longer a boutique, made a stylist of me and I draw upon the great cultural traditions of Ireland and Italy, as well as the intellectual fields of philosophy and aesthetics, to create fashion. See article on me in Pink Magazine Italia, written by Cinzia Giorgio and a contribution from Andrea Mecacci, Professor of Aesthetics, University of Florence, author of a great book on Kitsch.. https://pinkmagitalia.com/2016/07/30/il-fascino-eterno-di-buandiva-by-niamh-odwyer/ (translation in English attached). Buan means eternal in Irish. I love literature, history and archaeology.

  • Cultural Encounter
Cultural EncounterA set of Italian vintage clothes on a Moroccan/Italian model, highlighting the transcultural aspect of understanding Italian beauty. Some new woolen items were added, handmade by various craftspeople. The only pair of trousers in the shoot were upcycled by me, using the obi from the kimono sewn onto dancewear bottoms. Some of the jewellery was made by me, best of where are the red earrings.
