About me

Hi, I’m Nicci – a writer and journalist. I got my first job in journalism in 1999 – writing for Travel Maps Australia while WWOOFing my way around the country, living and learning on sustainable properties. My first taste of the digital nomad lifestyle. Back in the UK, I won a scholarship to study magazine journalism and spent the next few years working across lifestyle media (Emap, BBC, Bauer, IPC Media, Saatchi & Saatchi, Weber Shandwick) before starting up my own online magazine called Rude. My work has been published in The Huffington Post, The Sun, Daily Star, Here’s Health, Wellbeing Magazine, Country Walking, Eve, Expedia, This Morning, High50, Scarlet, Sussex Life & many B2B titles. I’ve also written several books. I now do commercial work for creative agencies, startups, trade unions and non-profits. I’m deep-diving into the wonderful world of UX + content design. I write The Shift, a newsletter on the future of work, tech, travel + innovation. It’s a curation of interesting things I’ve read online, reviews & recommendations, and a monthly interview series with remote workers. I want to see more diversity in media & advertising, so I’m on the committee for the NUJ London Freelance Branch and Freelance Industrial Council, campaigning for better pay & conditions for freelancers, & organising workshops and events. I’m a loud & proud union member. I love helping people explore their creativity and develop their business skills.
