About me
Hi! I'm Nicole Gonçalves, a 24 years-old photographer and filmmaker based in Porto, Portugal. With a degree in Communication Sciences from the University of Porto and a specialisation on Multimedia, I've been working at Canal180 for the last two years, focusing mostly on digital communication. I'm responsible for the editorial planning and publications in the social media networks, and I also film, edit, photograph, write and produce contents for Canal180's digital platforms. During my internship at Canal180, I directed the short Portraits: Mathilda which portrays the singer-songwriter Mafalda Costa and addresses the subject of youth and artistic creation from Mathilda's point of view. Since then I traveled with Canal180 to several places, such as Thessaloniki in Greece, where I filmed the 5th episode of New Activists of European Culture, Beyond Walls — a seven-episode-series that focuses on conversations between activists from Europe; to Azores, where I prepared and conducted the interviews and filmed the documentary Tremor 2019: Construction in Sound and Space; and most recently, filmed the 1st episode of the series And After Tomorrow? in Porto, amongst others. I participated on the development and was in charge of the communication of several projects such as the documentary From Freedom to Freedom, the second season of Director ID, and the series New Activists of European Culture, What’s Next?, C for Coffee, The Unexposed, How Electronic Music Works or Thoughts On The Next Decade. Looking to my family archives of VHS and Super 8 that portray our stories, I discovered I'm passionate about stories told from a personal perspective and family portraits on film. This motivated me to study for a masters in Documental Cinema, which I'm currently doing at ESMAD.
