About me
I am a singer songwriter and I would like to have the opportunity to develop myself within your company as a singer songwriter. I am going to be 18 years old in March 2019, and am in the final year of being in the music strand, at The Brit School for Performing Arts.. My love of songwriting started from that point onwards and to this day music is a fundamental part of my life. In 2015, I was a finalist in the ‘USA Songwriting Competition’. This was a rewarding moment for me.I treasure various, key moments from being at the Brit school whereupon I wrote an original piece of music about a key event for black history month. I chose to write about the ‘Windrush Generation,’ as it reflects on my own family heritage. I put together a collective of artists including a pianist and a spoken words student from another strand, to bring to life the message. Through my lyrics and music I was able to convey the struggles and dreams of those who came to England during the Windrush era. Additionally, I sang a cover version of ‘What’s Going On’ by Marvin Gaye, which fed into people’s emotion allowing them to reflect on that moment in time. One of my most significant moments as a musician, would be when I was chosen to perform in the remake of ‘Motown the Musical’ at Hackney Empire alongside the original cast and director. Again I wrote an original song for the show, working with the various art forms for this production was amazing, and I proved that I was able to work under pressure to meet music deadlines. I continue to use my skill of songwriting to create music for different events, including charity events. Most significantly I am passionate about using my art in order to help others in need. It is a real joy to put on performances, whereby I can demonstrate how music has a purpose beyond entertainment and to showcase how music can actually unite us and fight against the many problems in this world.
