In drafting a children’s story, I took a short internship at Afrori books to asses how children’s literature is written from a marginalised perspective. This was an insightful internship as I was able to have a wealth of conversations with the owner and co-owner about. Relevant topics relating to the overall black experience, which I was able to apply to my children’s story.

‘Our heavy heads’ was a personal endeavour after almost a decade of creative art and creative writing as a hobby. This project lasted three months and was assisted by a small publishing company ‘Betterenergy’ publishing. My communication, time management, and innovation skills were out to the test in this project, especially as I was responsible for the whole of the books content, however, due to the creative nature of the project, I sincerely enjoyed journey and am excited to get started on another.
