I am a 20 year old Finnish-Gambian artist, born and raised in Brussels, but now based in Helsinki. Crafts have always been a dominant part of my personality, starting from pencil drawing, moving on to painting and slowly finding my place in the world of expressionist/realist photography.
I spent my teenage years on a skateboard, which also saw me filming/editing footage of my friends rolling around (Sony Vegas and After Effects). In February 2019, I will receive my Cook’s diploma, which will mark the end of a 6 month internship at the Savoy here in my current hometown Helsinki.
A day hasn’t gone by without music around me. My earliest memories date at the beginning of 2000s, with my mum bumping Sade, Sam Cooke, Youssou N’Dour and other legends that I grew up with and consider to represent my own vibe. I started making experimental music late Autumn 2017, with my latest track being a remix of Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop” with influences from Western African percussion and Oriental strings.
My dream is to one day open a fine dining restaurant that will pay homage to my Afroscandinavian roots, with an exhibition of local photography including mine serving as a waiting room, assuming there will be a devout crowd, queuing to try my Reindeer Jollof and licorice ice cream topped with coconut nibbles and lime zest.
All in all I’m a youth of many passions when it comes to self-expression and portraying it through one’s personal craft. I have an eye for intricate detail, which accompanied with my left hand and ears that strive on hearing out others, work as my most trusty tools.
