About me
Hi, I’m Owen. I create celebratory visual stories about people. Strong human connection is at the core of my work, whether that be through candid moments or portraiture. I’ve immersed myself in the world of subcultures and stand-alone individuals and I strive to portray the essence of who they are. From naturists to lowriders, classical dancers to skinheads, and Imams to Dominatrix, I use photography as a tool to collaborate and explore the world around me. • The Matadors
The MatadorsBullfighting is a huge part of the Spanish identity and history, with origins as early as 711 AD. With growing division in the opinion of whether the killing of an animal should continue for entertainment, I went to Spain in search of the next generation of young hopeful matadors. I found young men who felt they’d learnt respect, courage and discipline from the teachings of bullfighting. Some were from generations of bullfighters and the culture around this performance of strength, movement an
  • Ground Clearance 2023 LA
Ground Clearance 2023 LAIn the mid-to-late 1940’s a new subculture in America emerged. Mexican-American youths had been known to place sandbags in their custom vehicles so that the body of their car would ride close to the road. This was aesthetically pleasing for those involved in the scene and would later be technologically advanced, for the same effect to be achieved by hydraulics. Lowriding was formed out of Mexican-American culture, and the vehicles were decorated to hold political statements and sported images r
  • Last Days of Summer.
Last Days of Summer.Last Days Of Summer is an ongoing photographic documentation of Southend-on-Sea. It aims to capture the multifaceted ways in which people, representing various age groups, backgrounds, and cultures, engage with the coastal environment. As a new resident of the city, this series of images has served both as a means for exploration and connection to my new home.
  • British Craft.
British Craft. In the UK traditional craft is not seen as either an art form, or heritage and due to the digital age, the future of many of these crafts has become uncertain. I’m documenting many different crafts, the people who have spent years perfecting them and the spaces they work from.
  • Skins & Suedes.
Skins & Suedes.Skinhead subculture has a long and complex history. The subculture drew influence from the earlier Mod style and originally had the music of Jamaican musicians in the 60’s as it’s soundtrack. Those involved in the subculture had a sense of working class pride and these attributes were often recognised in the white and black youth, who grew up across England. The skinhead style was often seen as an aggressive way of presenting yourself by the media, with short hair, rolled up jeans and footwear o
  • Honour of Statues.
Honour of Statues. It’s understood that statues should convey honour, yet so many around the UK portray figures of those who supported or profited from racial violence and segregation. On the 7th June 2020, the statue of Edward Colston was pulled down in protest in Bristol city centre. This cast a spotlight on the statues we walk past every day and what they represent.  Ayesha is a black female GB Fencer who has represented England in the Commonwealth and Senior British Championships, she has her ambition set on

Owen Harvey for Levi’s Jeans x Huck MagazineWhat does it mean to be a man today? Huck magazine is collaborating with Levi’s Performance Denim to explore how creative men are challenging outdated expectations of performance, status and identity. Owen spoke to Huck about his upbringing and how his body of work reflects the changing face of masculinity. As well as this, Owen created sensitive, hand-printed portraits of the other featured artists – recording artist, Tofel Santana and artist Kirill Grigorev to accompany their features.
