Final year fine art and theatre student at the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts.
My research-based studio practice is contextualised within Robert Hewison’s contemporary notion of Baudrillard’s fragmentation and James Ball’s definition of the post-truth era, I employ moving image to articulate my ideas on the blurred boundaries between fiction and reality in today’s hyper-mediated age. My concern with mediatised politics as rehearsed populist performance has led me to explore television as a medium to deliver information.
I recognise the consumption of - often fake - information as another commodity of late capitalism’s experience economy (Pine and Gilmore, 2011). The ways in which artists such as Candice Breitz, Dara Birnbaum or Richard Serra ‘talk back to the media’ have particularly influenced the direction of my current experimental video work.
All my research is published as part of my personal and academic blog, accessible through my website: bloping.wixsite.com/arts/blog
Projects
- Conversations au bord de la SeineWatch to see the aestheticised testimonies of millennial citizens who struggle between their desires and ethics. Listen to them as they speak, while smoking by the Seine, to get a glimpse into the moment when the contradictions of today's late capitalism vividly came to the fore in the form of intimate confessional dialogue.
