While I have been at Birmingham City University studying Design for Theatre, Performance and Event I have had the chance to try design of theatre, events, dance, puppetry, museums, concerts, exhibitions, festivals, themed environments, nightclubs, film and live arts. I am now a third year student who will be graduating in June. I am passionate about event and exhibition design and I am currenting working at the Rep Theatre Birmingham designer their charity Gala dinner that will be held in July. I have been able to develop my skills in digital designing, I am able to use SketchUp and Adobe to produce high quality designs.
Projects
- OCD - Music Video In 2016 as part of a second year university project, I collaborated with 10 other students to create a 4 minute long music video to Moby - Sevastopol. In this project I had the role as producer. This meant leading the team and making production lists to make sure we all stayed on task and nothing was forgotten. I also played a creative role in the project by helping with set designing and dressing.
- Live Nation - Download Festive In Easter 2016 my year group designed, sculpted and painted seven, eight foot tall statues to be exhibited in the backstage area at Download Festival 2016. We had three weeks to create the statues so working well as a team was a crucial part of this project. It was a great opportunity to work for a music events company, and showcase our work to iconic musicians.
- 27 Club Exhibition For my first project of my third year we were given 3 catalysts to look at chose to look at Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry. The play itself did not inspire me so I decided to look in the Jerry’s more. He died at the young age of 23. I continued to research into people who died young and the 27 club came up. As I continued research into this club it became more and more interesting to me. An advert for a 27 musical came up and I knew I had to go see it. I decided I wanted to look into trying to keep the audience in a certain emotion at a certain time of the performance. I chose to do an exhibition with the bar area of the theatre, that was showing the 27 muscial, that would change to have 3 different looks. At the start before the performance begins people will have to walk thought the exhibition to get to the bar. There will be a graphic panel across the box to hide the object inside. This first stage is to keep the audience in an excited mood. They will be able to learn more about the people who are in the 27 club. All the information on the boards will be somewhat happy information, it’ll be about what they achieved in their shorts lives and after their death. The interval is the part of the performance that I needed to concentrate on the most. As this is the point when I need to keep the audience in a emotional state. The panels are on a hinge so they will come down and revel the objects inside the boxes. The information will be on both sides of the boards so that information can still be seen. All the objects represent the way that they died. For Kurt Cobain a gun will be inside the cabernet to signify the fact that he shot himself. On the front of the box will be panel with the key information about their death. I felt this little bit of information would make people focus on the key points. The last stage of my exhibition brings all the elements together. When the audience exit the performance they will enter the exhibition again but this time the curtain that was around it will have been pulled back. So that you can see the whole exhibition at once. After the show ends your left in an emotional state because of the deaths. I want to almost take their minds off this sad state and get them to think about something else. There are drawers hidden within the plinths that will be open at the end. Inside will be a picture or object surrounding the mystery or conspiracy of their death. There will an information plaque inside the draw that will explain the significance of the imagery inside.
