People forget facts, but they never forget a great story. Stories have power. They delight, enchant, touch, teach, recall, inspire, motivate, and challenge us.
Stories are all around us.
They move us, they make us feel alive, they inspire us. Stories are the way we reach out to people and connect on an emotional level.
Maya Angelou once said, “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
And what’s the best way to make people feel? By telling a compelling story.
I believe an editor’s craft is to make that story happen, to make yourself understood, to speak in way people understand, to share an emotion.
And to craft a tale that touches just one other person makes it all worth doing.
