About me
Growing up in a society that loves boundaries, my approach works in-between them, as a bridge between architecture, clothing, and theater, using my multidisciplinary background and experience. My recent work is focused on theater because there is a ritual that starts with a deep understanding, research, and psychological analysis of the characters through the text. The characters I design tend to be strange creatures with unrealistic elements. They belong to a dystopian world, part of our dark side which we are trying to hide, but we have to face as spectators. Coming from a dense and with a very hectic pace of life city, Athens, I often draw inspiration from the urban environment, the problems, and the social inequalities of a city. It seems impossible to me not to think or create the space, physical, or conceptual in which a performance or an artistic intervention exists. I strongly believe that in order to define this space I have to leave the theater building behind, and be flexible towards new forms of performances that do not leave the audience on the dark side of the room. They are, instead, interactive, direct, and experiential. I enjoy working within a group or community, getting inspired by other people's thoughts, and listening to new perspectives that I had never thought of before, as I believe that human psychology is an endless source of exploration. I experiment with unusual fabrics and architectural materials, which are blurring the structure of the human body and turning into scenographic costumes that produce sounds, movements, and lighting in a constant dialogue with the performer’s presence. I often think of my projects as the non-linear path to creating an architectural, spatial, and somatic system, that starts from the abstract form of breaking boundaries into an artistic connection of values, means, and knowledge that these directions gave to me.
