About me
A word-obsessed content editor freelance writer with more than a decade's experience in journalism, content marketing, PR, marketing and events. I've been fortunate enough to get to write about cars, travel, people, technology, history and Lego (I had a cup of tea with the inventor of the wind-up radio), and now I'm more involved in content strategy and search experience. Clients past and present have included Alfa Romeo, Audi, Bentley, Hertz, and Mercedes-Benz - and even non-automotive brands, like Airstream, ghd and Sofology. But among that, I also still really like writing stories, writing about people.
Projects
  • The ugly duckling
The ugly ducklingAudi and its advertising agency BBH were filming a new commercial in Slovenia, said the editor. My brief was simple: go behind the scenes and write about it. The advert's story was simple and delightful, using Danny Kaye's The Ugly Duckling as the soundtrack and hook for showing the story of Audi's aerodynamic heritage. I hope I did the film, and everyone involved, justice. Audi Magazine, Northstar
  • The little bricks that inspired the world
The little bricks that inspired the worldCoinciding with Lego's 65th anniversary, this was my final feature for Audi Magazine. It was a delight to write, and the design team did a superb job with this bold and vibrant layout, with playful photography of models made by a very talented Lego builder. If you don't have time to read it, then the important thing is this: playing with Lego is good for everyone. Until you step on it. Audi Magazine, Northstar

It's quite hard to pick one job title for my time at Samuelson Wylie. Writer, copywriter, event organiser, press officer, designer, photographer – we had to adapt in our tight-knit team to whatever needed doing. One day I might've been helping to organise and run an off-road media event, driving coast to coast across the UK without going on open public roads, while on another I might've been writing and designing our annual charity fundraiser's print programme. I once even drove to the Arctic Circle with my boss and a photographer (we had a brew when we got there).

     - London, United KingdomFull Time
Working as a staff writer and then assistant editor, I wrote about Lego, the Dambusters, a little-known mountain pass in Switzerland, car launches and anything else for the magazines and programmes we produced. While titles included Audi Magazine and the Goodwood motoring event programmes, I wrote about much more than cars alone.
