I am a cinema and heritage professional based in Kitale, Kenya. My award-winning work in film production design on ‘Angles of My Face’ (2015), ‘Outset’ (2015) and ‘Have Not’ (2015) made up my early steps into filmmaking before I set out to establish Dots Village, a media company telling stories from Eastern Africa's heritage and culture. My current film project, 'The Schemer' (narrative feature) focuses on challenging narratives of the interactions that happen between different races and cultures in a local African town.
Through the prestigious Chevening Scholarship, I received an MA in the International Film Business from the University of Exeter and the London Film School. I also got a BA in Theatre Arts and Film Technology from Kenyatta University, Nairobi and a certificate in Community Engagement and Civic leadership from Wagner College, New York, awarded by both Wagner College and the US Department of State through the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders. I have been a business development partner of the Hip Hop Film Festival, the flagship project of New York’s Harlem Film House which I helped organize in Nairobi and Abidjan, and I’m currently implementing 'The ChorusBox' (inspired by Maaza Mengiste's writing), a community hub focusing on developing shared knowledge, interdisciplinary thought leadership and social entrepreneurship. I am also a founding member and lead project designer of 'Kobole Chronicles', a heritage project based in Kitale which partners with the local museum to bring aspects of shared cosmopolitan heritage to life through year-round events and community pop-up programs. I have lectured on African cinema at the University of West Indies and spoken at conferences about the place of art and culture in development, most recently presenting at the Chevening Conference 2019 in Manchester on the role of art in the development of sustainable global cities.
