About me
After studying Philosophy at the University of Sheffield, England, I went over to New York to study Screenwriting at the New York Film Academy and began my journey into the Film and TV industry. Here, I developed a deep understanding of the craft of Screenwriting, from treatment, plot and character development, to structure and formatting techniques, all essential attributes to telling stories through the screen. Being taught in a writer's room setting, I am more than familiar with pitching and discussing my work and thus criticism of my work, learning to use it as a way to improve my storytelling and communication of ideas. I went on to have a short script picked up for production in London and spent over eighteen months working as a Literary Assistant for a film production / management company based in LA. My job involved vast amounts of script reading, coverage writing and researching projects, constantly learning through examples of good and bad work. I also worked directly with writers to develop their scripts to a desired standard, revising drafts and editing formatting and structural issues across all genres. As a result of my hard work and commitment, I have since been hired as a co-writer on one of these projects, aiming for principal photography to begin late 2019: (https://www.falcongrove.com/news/2018/phil-osullivan-attached-to-co-write-psychological-thriller-blindfold-vision) Most recently, I have worked with the Andy Serkis led company The Imaginarium Studios in a similar position, as well as working as a Script Reader for the BAFTA Rocliffe TV writing competition, the BlueCat Screenplay Competition and as a Script Writer for SLNda, a London-based film and TV development company, where I work with other writers to brainstorm episodic storylines, create character biographies and write sample scenes and episodes for the company's slate of projects. I am an organised, self-motivated, independent and creative individual with a positive, can-do attitude and passion for scriptwriting and storytelling in all genres. I also have considerable experience in administrative roles, such as film production, where organisation, punctuality and time management are essential attributes. My works have recently been nominated for Best Feature Film Script at the Houston Comedy Film Festival, Officially Selected for competition at the Hollywood Comedy Short Film Festival and reached quarter final stages at the ScreenCraft Comedy Screenplay Competition.
