On Friday and Saturday I work a full day at the Aidan Meller Galleries. I usually work closely with a team of three people at one of the three galleries in Oxford. However occasionally I will look after a gallery by myself. Indeed on my second day working at Aidan Meller I was able to man the Old Masters gallery alone. Primarily I perform admin work such as calling clients to invite them to private shows, writing invitations and adding clients to databases. However I am also encouraged to talk with customers when appropriate (which I thoroughly enjoy) and entrusted to transfer paintings across the three galleries.
A fast paced bar with diverse clientele in the heart of Oxford. I worked as part of a lean team of three with a broad remit: washing dishes, cleaning and serving food to customers. I also served behind the bar, handling cash and making drinks. This position gave me useful experience working with a culturally diverse set of people and proved that I work well in a busy environment - often I would operate the bar alone, for instance.
I sought a voluntary position at a local gallery in order to gain experience in the art world. This position required me to adopt multiple roles. Predominantly I fulfilled secretarial jobs: answering calls, general administration and checking stock. However, I was also able to assist in the selling of small items of artwork, which involved extensive interaction with customers.
I worked for a local popular gift shop and tea room where I waitressed and worked in the gift shop. I built excellent rapport with both staff and customers and learned to multi-task efficiently and effectively.
