• Worked for 6 weeks with Balloon Ventures in Kenya. A programme which hopes to encourage sustainable economic development and reduce unemployment in Africa.
• Referred by Balloon Ventures for funding from Aston University due to my strong application, resulting in a £1,500 subsidy
• Following an intense training programme in entrepreneurship and strategy, I worked (in a team of 3) with 5 entrepreneurs over 5 weeks to innovate, test and refine their start-up ideas
• Supported the entrepreneurs to develop their business ideas, marketing strategies, improve efficiencies and encourage innovation based on evidence from testing and results from customer development and market research
• Responsible for managing time, prioritising tasks and setting weekly targets that were varied and tailored for each entrepreneur based on individual needs
• Built a strong relationship with all entrepreneurs, motivating and encouraging them to maintain momentum throughout the programme so that they could achieve and benefit as much from the programme as possible
• Adapted and overcame diverse culture and language barriers to effectively communicate, consult and support
• Taught and tracked maintaining accurate financial records and budgeting
• Created pitch documents for each entrepreneur summarising their business idea and
development and growth over the programme as well as giving support and training in
presentation and sales skills
• The programme culminated which each entrepreneur pitching his or her start-up idea and
justifying their need for funding, with the hope of winning an interest free loan
• Created a blog which I updated weekly of my experience. This covered both the working
aspect of the programme and the opportunity to travel and explore Kenya on the weekends
• 4 out of 5 entrepreneurs successfully gained full funding as a result
Marketing AssistantDiscovery Networks International

• Sole management of co-ordinating and tracking all affiliate marketing content across 11 UK channels, including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, TLC, ID and Quest
• Acted as first contact point for all affiliate-marketing partners, including Sky and Virgin, building relationships and providing quick and detailed responses to marketing requests across all channels
• Wrote on air marketing briefs for several new upcoming series and briefed in to creative team, developing key marketing strategies and following production and creative through to the end, ensuring all marketing objectives were met before signing off final promos for on-air promotional spots
• Management of external monthly marketing newsletter sent to 60,000 subscribers, including implementing a new design using embedded video, used to promote priority content and encourage click-troughs to website
• Co-ordinated various trade promotional activity to increase consumer, agency and media awareness off our brand and channels, for example ‘Weiner Drop’ for TLC and ‘TLC Summer’
• Managed the design, ordering and delivery of hundreds of branded items for Discovery Networks throughout the year for both external and internal use, varying item choice to reflect the personality of each individual channel brand
• Responsible for tracking budgets for the team and ensuring all POs for the department were settled on time, liaising with the finance department on a weekly basis
• Working with wider Marketing team on ad hoc requests efficiently
• Proficient user of Keynote, creating several presentations for use by senior staff both internally and externally
