Mayamiko is a brand which prides itself on it’s sustainability and ethics within fashion and I took the role in the hope to learn more about these two key factors. I feel that working for Mayamiko has further educated me on the issues surrounding the matter and has helped to broaden my knowledge on this area of the fashion industry. While at Mayamiko I have fulfilled a variety of jobs, including; graphic design for weekly newsletters and homepage updates, assisting at photoshoots, creating look-books and press releases ready for the new collection launches, writing copy, managing all social media and influencer outreach as well as online store merchandising and management. On top of this there was a significant period where I was also in charge of processing and posting all online orders. I feel that working for a small brand such as this one has allowed me to gain good insight and experience into the many different departments that you would typically see in a larger corporation. At Mayamiko I spent half my time working from the office and half my time working from home, working autonomously has taught me how to be self motivated and extremely organised, both of which I see as invaluable skills.
Whilst working for Sister Jane my role was heavily directed towards CAD software. My main responsibilities were; designing the weekly newsletters and updating the website homepage. Other duties included; merchandising of the online store, casting models for campaigns, managing social media accounts, reaching out to influencers and general office admin. From this role, I feel I have tremendously developed my skills in CAD software and administrative work.
Whilst working at Free People I took on a plethora of job roles, including; weekly and monthly reports on social growth, brand marketing, competitive landscape and coverage, managing the UK Facebook and supporting all other UK social media, building relationships with press and influencers, pulling and keeping record of samples for major UK shoots, event planning, blog contributions, shoot production and styling, admin and finance. From this role I have learnt great communication skills and significantly enhanced my ability to timekeep and multitask. I’ve also gained great confidence in a fast paced professional environment.
