Born in San Francisco, Quetzal Maucci is an Argentinian and Peruvian American photographer based in London and part of Women Photograph. She is currently studying for her Master’s in Photojournalism and Documentary Photography at London College of Communication. Recently, she won the Open Walls 2020 exhibition for her work on Children of Immigrants. This work is currently exhibited during the Les Rencontres d'Arles photography festival at Galerie Huit Arles until 27 September. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Honors degree in Photography and Imaging from New York University. She explores issues about immigration, state violence, and identity. She has worked with The Vavengers, a charity fighting against female genital mutilation and Stand For Humanity, a movement raising awareness about the refugee crisis.
Her personal project, We Are More Than Numbers: Portraits of Children of Immigrants, was published in The New York Times, which explored and interviewed the community of children of immigrants in the United States. This project is permanently exhibited in the New Americans Museum in San Diego, California. Quetzal has worked with Comic Relief as a picture editor and photographer. She has also worked for BAFTA, BBC, Condé Nast, Trivago, Sofar Sounds, MTV, The Line of Best Fit and various private photographers.
Her work has been published in The New York Times, BBC, Al Dia, Mono.sk, The Line of Best Fit, Adorama, and in various newspapers in the UK.
