About me
Raffaella is an emerging contemporary art curator. Her research focuses on both Contemporary African Art and Urban Art. She is collaborating with Moleskine Foundation curating the artists’ notebooks collection, participating in workshops with prominent artists and curators such as Bili Bidjocka and Simon Njami, and editing different kind of contents for the website such as articles, critical essays, event updates and so forth. In the last year she has been working as a curator and manager for C-Gallery, a contemporary art gallery based in the heart of the Art District in Milan, Italy. C-Gallery makes a work of exploration of the contemporary art world, selecting and promoting international artists who are able, through their artworks, to create new visual codes and to enlarge the borders of the art market beyond local instances. As Director of the Cultural Association Grafite HB based in Milan, Italy, she develops Urban Art projects and Cultural Events using contemporary art as a tool for audience engagement in suburban areas. She also works as a writer and art critic collaborating with blogs and magazines. Curatorial Statement: As curator I see my role as mediator between artistic expression and public perception. I see contemporary art as a cultural tool to spreading education and to inspiring the new generations. Is my opinion that art must stimulate critical thinking, that’s the why I always look for artists who are able to approach social issues and to broaden common perspectives about them. Is also important for me to find a balance between aesthetic and narrative, creating different layers of meaning that everyone could understand according with their specific perception. I seek to show artistic work in a comprehensible way and in unusual venues to create access also for non-art-people.
