About me
I am a BA Fine Arts student with a keen interest in fashion publishing and curating online media content. My deep understanding of fashion trends and emerging brands is a result of my cosmopolitan upbringing, having lived between London and the Middle East's fashion capital Dubai. I am fiercely passionate about creative curation and editing as cultivated by my experience in independent publishing. Additionally, I am familiar with creative direction and fashion styling due to working on various sets and shoots over the last few years. My education is particularly relevant in today's fashion landscape as I am well versed in academic genres that reflect current cultural and consumer interests - namely, my studies in Race and Gender in Media and Popular Culture, and in Social Anthropology. I have a personal interest in such themes as apparent in my work as a practicing artist and creative. Artist Summary: My artwork is concerned with Western pop culture, transnational identities, diaspora, and sometimes my own lived experiences. I work with various mixed media- using my own body as a medium, as well as photography, time-based projects, installation, embroidery, and net art. My latest project is titled "Girls in Conversation" which is a series of portraits and interviews with women of color from a diaspora background. The work explores the materiality of heirloom items as a consequence of diaspora. An example of one of my projects: “Romeo Is A Jerk” (May 2017 – February 2018) Romeo Is A Jerk is a political art project launched to combat online sexual harassment in a community engaging and humorous way. I have displayed this work at Subject Hoxton Art fair, Cultural Traffic art fair, and featured in Moodbored Magazine. Portfolio available upon request.

  • ROMEO IS A JERK
ROMEO IS A JERKROMEO IS A JERK (May 2017 – February 2018) is a political art project launched to combat online sexual harassment in a community engaging and humorous way. This project started small- I asked my female friends, colleagues and few strangers on online forums to send screen grabs of their interactions with men online, and in particular those which document everything from subtle sexism to unsolicited graphic images, to verbal abuse and violence. The response since then has been overwhelming, women from all over the world have engaged with this project via social media, and I have recieved upwards of 150 submissions from women interacting with men on private messaging apps like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tinder, and others. The content of these screengrabs has been satirically placed inside Valentine's Day cards. The disturbing crowdsourced content inside these lovely facades strips away the power of anonimity, with the option to delete said messages, that harrassers have on these platforms. I have displayed this work at Subject Hoxton Art fair, Cultural Traffic art fair, and featured in Moodbored Magazine. The Instagram page for this project, despite its honest content, had been taken down, and the username @romeoisajerk is inactive due to Instagram's regulations. *Disclaimer: The identities or any information of any persons who contributed to the submission of private online content is not divulged to the public and remains anonymous.

Fluid FemininityTHE PROJECT This photo project aims to provide a visual exploration on the fluidity and dynamism of femininity through style and dress. By playing with the ‘pantsuit’, widely recognised as traditionally ‘masculine’ attire, the project serves to invert traditional symbols associated with gender roles, femininity and identity. The shoot aims to contribute to discussions on intersectional feminism and explore the ways black, dark-skinned women navigate harmful one-dimensional and Eurocentric repr
