The first year of my course saw me explore Religion as part of cultural identity; producing a body of work titled 'You have your Islam and I have mine', a series of portraits of British-Arab Muslim women set in a British landscape, speaking through their body and facial expressions. My second year saw me continuing to explore cultural identity, where I looked at Generation as one of the strands that build our identity. Particularly looking at the Arab Diaspora in Britain and how each generation of migrants has evolved into creating a new identity; producing a short film as my final production titled 'Forget Me Not'. Aside from the creative work, I also produced a short research paper in my second year, exploring the use of photography and social media during the 2019 riots in Lebanon.

My second and final year went down the route exploring topics such as cultural identity, the Arab Diaspora, displacement, archives, the family album and migration (as the main themes) also touching upon orientalism and post-colonialism. I took a personal approach, focusing on my own heritage as a British-Lebanese woman, by visiting Lebanon on a number of occasions as well as visiting Kuwait (with my paternal family residing there) to build up my creative body of work. From this body of work I produced 2 exhibition pieces and 5 publications, including a publication hand-made by myself. My dissertation focused on the misrepresentation of the Middle East in visual media; in which I discuss orientalism, the portrayal and misconceptions, the politics and ethics of photography, the missing archive, lack of representation coming from Arab artists/descendants of. - If anyone would like to read it, please contact me and I can send a copy.
