- South Ken Kids FestivalThe South Ken Kids Festival is an annual children's literature festival that takes place in South Kensington. It promotes both French and British authors and illustrators and allows children direct contact with their idols. There are live drawing events as well as meet the author talks. The 2015 festival saw the likes of Claude Ponti, Quentin Blake, Tony Ross and Michael Rosen taking part.
Work history
Schools Officer
Organising school bookings and events for the 2015 South Ken Kids Festival. The festival encompasses more than 6000 children over a week-long period and sees 25 authors and illustrators, both French and English, taking part. In 2015 some of the artists included Quentin Blake, Tony Ross, Claude Ponti and Michael Rosen. My main activities were: The creation of a Schools Programme that was sent out to all London schools. Took bookings for more than 150 different events and worked with 36 different schools of differing kids including private, public, state, bilingual and SEN. Ran several of the workshops during the festival and chaired events. Wrote copy for the festival website and brochure. Contacted editors and artists to take part in the festival. Created partnerships with other organisations including the British Library and the Dickens Museum as well as commercial promotional partnerships with brands like Ella's Kitchen. Maintained close contact with participating schools via phone, e-mail and face-to-face meetings. Presented the festival to large groups of teachers. Sent out bills for events and chased missing payments. Worked closely with other internal departments at the French Institute such as Marketing, Accounts and Logistics to ensure the smooth running of the festival.
Outside of the festival:
Helped with an Artist in Residence project. Liaised directly with the artist and was personally responsible for her workshop with children.
Curated an exhibition which was installed at the Institute for the festival. Liaised directly with the photographer to negotiate the terms of the exhibition.
Regularly updated the department blog and contacted editors and authors to provide guest posts.
