Rosalie completed three weeks of working experience during an internship at Reliance Clothing. Reliance Clothing is a company that acts as a hub between manufacturers and clients and focuses on facilitating the procurement , design, production and dispatch of garments for a range of prominent, commercial South African fashion retail brands for quick response and seasonal accounts. During the internship program, Rosalie gained invaluable insights into the back-end processes of the retail industry that include sourcing, liaising with client buying teams, understanding timelines and the effects of delays and the importance of establishing clear and accurate communication channels. In addition Rosalie completed an individual project where she was assigned a brand from a prominent client with the purpose of experiencing the retail process from concept to product. This included conducting thorough brand, market, trend and competitor analysis to develop unique yet brand appropriate product offerings. The subsequent steps included product design, fabric and trim sourcing, drawing up CMT specification sheets and technical drawings/flats using CAD, conducting ratings, costing the garments, liaising with the sample room, pattern making, conducting fittings and eventually signing off on the final garments. During this period Rosalie was also fortunate to visit a variety of factory spaces including a textile printing facilities and CMTs. Rosalie also attended a private trend forecasting briefing with Reliance Clothing at the WGSN Cape Town head office allowing her to gain insight into how seasonal trend research is interpreted for individual brands. At the end of the internship Rosalie presented her findings and sample garments at a board meeting for the head merchandisers, pattern makers, heads of the sample room and the CEO of Reliance Clothing and CEO of Rotex Fabrics.
