About me
I can’t draw faces. In all the years i have been designing, drawing, colouring, sketching i have been unable to draw faces, maybe its the nose or the keenness of eyes, its always been a hurdle i have not been able to cross. Having founded a design and print studio for 10 years, headed the design department for a multinational like Groupon, built countless Android, IOS Apps, Conjured up UI’s for Android TV, Apple TV, Desktop, ROKU, Amazon FireTV, FireStick worked out interactions for many VC’s, COO’s, CTO’s, worked with scores of developers, Full-Stack, Mid-Stack, Database, Android Level using everything Adobe has to offer, with a peppering of Wacom, a generous helping of Sketch, InVision, Kite Compositor, the face still baffles maybe one of these days ill take a life drawing class.

Head OF DesignThe Electric Jukebox Company
    London, United KingdomFull Time
The Electric Jukebox Company, a British based music streaming platform, utilising a set-top box to provide unlimited music to be streamed via living-room TV’s. Unlike working on TV App platforms like Android TV and Apple-TV where the structures are rigid and predefined, this was a custom built grassroots ecosystem, whose sole ethos centres around ease of use. This meant adapting modern UX principles to a different standard one that’s less about squeezing as much content in to one screen as possible and rather making searching, discovering and customising the music users want front and centre. This required a brand new UI, that would sit comfortable in any living room, building a minified player that would allow users control of their music from any screen, a search function that pushes the hardware (on-the-fly focus blurring) to allow users seamless execution of search without loosing context. Creating more engaged album overview screens (using image analysis to colourize page elements), that highlights album artwork, whilst maintaining full function accessibility. One of the unique experiences from this role was as an architect of the in-app game Name That Tune. Where users would hear 20 second clips of songs and would have to choose from an option of 4 correlating cover arts. This is a completely new discipline for me, one that is about focusing users and building anticipation, whilst maintaining ease of use, excitement and a meaningful payoff at the end. At launch the feedback from customers has been extremely positive, with an expanded user base that went from predominantly over 55’s to a wider user base that ranges from 9 to 45 and my designs have gone a long way to allow that expansion to keep users entertained, thrilled and above all engaged, this in my mind would count as a success.

    Head of Design UI/UXFlix Premiere
     - Sevenoaks, United KingdomFull Time
UX for the Big & Beautiful At Flixpremiere i head the Design Department for a small software development outfit, my role varies across many disciplines and platforms. My work has progressed from working on classical desktop platforms, to mobile web, mobile/tablet apps both Android and IOS to the 10ft experience on TV Apps for Apple TV, Android TV, Sony, Roku, Amazon and Firestick . This work has had to be more refined than my previous design work, less free wheeling and more building consistent workflows to direct and funnel users through the experience. Some abstraction is required when designing cross platform like this, but i have been able to champion these platforms whilst still maintaining my own creative identity and flair. The work is always challenging and i have thrived in an atmosphere of problem solving, innovation and efficiency.
