Ruppert Gabriel is a highly motivated, versatile Series Director/ Producer and trusted creator of non-scripted and semi-scripted, reality and formatted factual entertainment strands, covering music, interior design, property, sports docs, precinct, travel and adventure. He loves to make and watch funny, entertaining, accessible and mischievous television that feels authentic. He can deliver rich narrative storytelling with clear editorial direction and enjoys challenging, unique projects with a solid social underpinning. Passionate about telling uplifting stories about young people that cut across cultures, gender, race and class. He is always looking to explore the human condition in surprising and entertaining ways.
He has recently brought his experience working with on-screen talent in entertaining documentary settings to some premium productions at Nutopia and Fulwell 73. He is currently working at Icon Films with global survival talent Hazen Audel on the highly successful returning
series, Primal Survivor.
Ruppert has filmed in some of the most challenging environments, from Finland's northernmost province to the Sahara and streets of South Africa to the city of Hong Kong. He has exceptional people skills which he uses to get great performances from people, whether working with on-screen talent and celebrities or gaining the trust of people new to television.
He is a director who is always thinking about the vision and is adept at articulating ideas in scripts, storyboards and mood boards. Comfortable writing Graphic and SFX briefs and ensuring the results meet expectations. Able to keep an eye on the big picture without losing sight of the detail with a strong visual acuity and creative flair, whether directing single or multi-camera crews.
Ruppert started his career in drama as a second unit director and location manager on feature films and endeavours to bring the rigours of dramatic storytelling to his work. He has worked on a wide range of factual and factual entertainment productions, including The Ultimate Brocation, All Access Changi, The Only Way is Essex, City Beats, Geordie Shore, My First Gay Summer, and Coach Trip.
