    JournalistBitter Sweet Symphonies
    London, United KingdomFreelance
My time writing for the music blog Bitter Sweet Symphonies has allowed me to develop my skills in interview journalism as well as my ability to research and source exciting new music. It has also given me the opportunity to review live shows and hotly-tipped Single and Album releases. I have had the pleasure of interviewing some of the most exciting up-and-coming artists from across the country, including Clean Cut Kid, Fat White Family, Phobophobes, and rising Jazz star Oscar Jerome. During my time in this role, I have learnt how to use Wordpress adeptly and efficently, as well as how to utilize portable microphones in order to capture speech from difficult distances, or to isolate it amongst disruptive enviromental noise. I have formed a close working relationship with the senior editor of the blog since my first articles were published, and continue to write material for Bitter Sweet Symphonies today.

    JournalistWe Plug Good Music
     - London, United KingdomInternship
During my four month internship with We Plug Good Music, I was required to write a minimum of four 600-1000 word reviews a week. In addition to this, it was necessary for me to keep up to date with dominant trends in the music industry in order to tailor my articles to public taste, or in certain cases, to give publicity to artists who may have been ignored by other mainstream music magazines and websites. This role allowed me to develop my journalistic tone, research skills, and importantly, my ability to write accessible, insightful reviews to a professional standard and to strict deadlines.

Throughout my time studying an English Literature BA at Goldsmiths University, I have developed a rigorous and proficient critical eye which I have had the opportunity to apply to the analysis of a wide range of literature and film. I have become especially skilled in the analysis of film and film history. In my second year, I chose to study a European Cinema Module taught by Deac Rossell, a renowned film critic, author, and former Head of Programme Planning at the BFI. Throughout this module, I learnt about the technical and directorial approaches of filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard, Ingmar Bergman, Tom Tykwer, Agnes Varda and Krzysztof Kieslowski, finding a particular interest in the French New Wave directors. In my third year, I decided to expand my knowledge of cinema, and chose to study the Film and Literature module, in which I gained knowledge of the conflict between the literary and filmic mediums during the early stages of the latter’s development. I also acquired detailed knowledge of Surrealist Cinema, the Lumière Brother's and George Melies' early productions, and the way in which early cinema influenced modernist writers such as Virginia Woolf and James Joyce.
