About me
IG: www.instagram.com/sarahkoesterfotografie www.sarahkoester.com Sarah Johanna Köster (b. 1998) is a photographer and art director based in Witten, Bochum and Dortmund, NRW, Germany. She strives to capture the beauty in the ordinary and to see something special in every human being. Her photographic work plays with the sharp contrast of light and shadow, oscillating between abstraction and figuration. From time to time, she brings her personal aesthetic into the music industry by supporting artists, especially women, with her photography. Her photography revolves around identity, diversity, and individuality, which is reflected in both her models and her thematic focus. Since 2015, she also brings her personal aesthetic into the music industry by supporting especially women in the industry with her photography. Sarah has already worked all across Europe and is available for travel. As different as they might be - they are all connected by an invisible bond that creates trust and shapes the mutual identity of each. From their first encounter, the thin string begins to grow into an ever stronger bond. Over the years, sisters gather more and more shared experiences, forming a mutual collection of memories - whether positive or negative. But how can the trust and shared identity of sisters be made visible? What

I became an ADC Talent Member after my master's thesis was awarded the golden nail. My photo book "vague" received the following comment from the jury: "Vague is a visual journey into the world between dream and reality. Photography is used for this book project in all its creative spectrum. The thrilling pictorial rhythm of interchanging portraits, landscapes, objects color alienations, cropping and abstractions creates a visually seductive experience that celebrates the power of images. The photography creates narratives that are not specifically stated, but are clearly palpable. The playful realization presented here is a refreshing counterpoint in our thoroughly structured world and exemplifies the richness of design in photography." https://www.adc.de/wettbewerb/adc-gallery/detail/year/2023/entry/85115

    M. A. Photographic Studies (1.0) My Master's thesis delved into "The depiction of the non-concrete through the concrete medium of photography: about dreams, desires, and surreality. 43,800 hours – this is how long a person dreams in a lifetime. But what is real? And what is only an illusion? In sleep dreams, it is often impossible to separate reality from fantasy. We find ourselves in intermediate worlds that are both abstract and barely tangible. Dreams are inevitably connected with desires. They are important in order not to lose hope for a better future despite crises. Can new things emerge in an abstract way in our real world? For my practical component, I created a photo book called “vague”, which attempts to answer this question and represents a nexus between reality and fiction. With the help of experimental photographic techniques, I create visual incentives for the recipients to deal with their own dreams and desires. Awarded with the ADC Talent Award 2023 in Gold.

    B. A. Communication Design (1,0) My Bachelor's thesis delved into examining the challenges and relevance of women in the European music industry. In the practical component of my Bachelor's, I immersed myself in creating a book titled "Playlist – Leslie Clio." It involves a blend of photography, journalism, and creative exploration as I documented the journey of German singer Leslie Clio. Focused on her gold-awarded song "I Couldn't Care Less," I portrayed her not only as a musician but also as a private person, delving into her personal history and tracing the evolution of her identity across her first three albums: Gladys, Eureka, and Purple. The project emotionally dissects her songs while exploring her experiences in the music industry, accompanied by insights into the narratives behind some of her most notable tracks. The book also features the lyrics of each song and provides a visual narrative through photographs capturing both her on-stage presence and private moments.
