About me
I studied at the South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance, where I received Cum Laude for my Honours in Screenwriting. Prior to this I received my BA in Political Science and English from the University of Stellenbosch. In 2018 Sarah was involved in ‘Leading Lady Parts’, directed by Jessica Swale. The short film about the #MeToo movement now has over 20 million views online. Sarah has been working at The Electric Shadow Company since November 2015, where she works predominantly in development for both the production and financing (J Cubed Film Financing) branches of the company. My credits to date include ‘McQueen’ (2018), the Alexander McQueen documentary directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, ‘The Hippopotamus’ directed by John Jencks, and ESC’s most recent credits including ‘SAS: Red Notice’ based on the novel by Andy McNab, and ‘Guns Akimbo’ starring Daniel Radcliffe. In 2015 I started working at The Electric Shadow Company where I now work predominantly in development, for the company's own projects as well as the financing company's projects (J Cubed Film Financing). I am currently enrolled in the NFTS Script Development Course, from whom I received a bursary. The course finishes in January 2021. In 2019 I produced the short film 'Sucka Punch' for The Uncertain Kingdom initiative, which has given 20 filmmaking teams up to £10k each to make a short film that’s entertaining, original and relevant to the UK in 2019. All the short films will be distributed nationwide in 2020. I also wrote and directed my first short film, BecoME, in 2019, which is a one minute experimental horror. The short has been selected for Lift Off's First Time Filmmakers Showcase, and will be screening in the official selection competition in December 2019.

Sucka PunchA young millennial takes the audience on a visual journey through the current digital age and the insidious ways brands use social media to target the mobile phone generation. She advocates the need for a global uprising. By the end of the film, we question whether her intentions are pure.
  • BecoME
BecoMELogline: Through a series of unsettling dance movements, the film explores the gradual deterioration of structure towards the ultimate identification of who one truly is.
