About me
I was first introduced to pottery by a studio potter, in Malawi then introduced to design thinking and ceramic manufacturing techniques during my BA 3D Designer Maker programme at Staffordshire University in Stoke-on-Trent. My work revolves around the dialogue that happens between the maker and the material during the creative process, mostly through material investigation and process-led approaches. Some of my forms are influenced by traditional Korean pottery due to my heritage and interest in the historical and cultural aspects of clay. Through my work, I want to continue to grow my personal language as a maker by looking at the traditional and cultural significances of this craft, aiming for a higher quality of making.
Projects
  • Untitled
UntitledIn this project, I continued my material investigation in terracotta and found its malleability favorable. After throwing a few terracotta cylinders on the wheel, I took the batt off and threw it on the table. From the impact of the fall and the weight of gravity, these two pieces were formed.
  • Jasper
JasperIn this Live Project, I looked at creating something new and innovative for Wedgwood using one of its iconic materials 'Jasper'. It's an ever-changing sculptural piece that promotes the behaviour of play. Each component can be rearranged and placed on top of the other. From this, one can take a break from the digital world to play with these objects, allowing for a digital detox.
  • Na-ye Jubyeong
Na-ye JubyeongThis collection questions traditional techniques and processes. The form is loosely inspired by the Korean Jubyeong.
  • Brooch
BroochMaking a brooch with copper and using techniques such as pierce sawing and soldering.
  • Wood and Ceramics
Wood and CeramicsSugar? Honey? Candy? Empty jars waiting for their purpose to be fulfilled. The clay body is stoneware and the lids wood turned on the lathe.
  • Overflow of Colours
Overflow of ColoursCombining wood and ceramics, the overflow of colours was a nice finishing touch to these sets. The ceramic pieces are plaster moulds, casted with white KGM slip and the base wood turned and polished.
